Five Moments to Document at Home with Your Kids
We all know how fast childhood goes by, and for parents it feels so important to capture those years in images. Here are five moments to document at home with your kids!
PS, did you know that I'm teaching a class for mamas who want to learn how to take pictures of their kids? It's happening in January of 2025, and I couldn't be more excited. Bring that beautiful camera that you've sworn you'll figure out but haven't gotten around to it yet; I'll give you the basics of taking beautiful photos! "Read Me a Story, Mama"
Storytime is magical for kids, and it can be deeply...well, boring for the parents. Reading (or reciting) your kiddo's favorite book for the millionth time can really wear on the sanity of even the most stable parent. Bring some sweetness back into this time by reading their favorite story in a new way. Maybe add new voices, or let them recite parts of it. Meanwhile, you and your spouse can take turns with the camera, capturing this intimate time full of giggles and cuddles.
Splish Splash, I Was Taking a Bath
You can't convince me that anything is cuter than a small child with a shampoo hair spike on their head, or a handful of bubbles, or wrapped up snuggly in a hooded towel. During bath time, get creative with bubbles, toys, and angles to protect your sweet babe's modesty. Give them their favorite toy, or bring in their sibling to play. Your kiddo's squeaky-clean face and wet hair will be adorable shots to cherish.
In the Kitchen
We often think of the kitchen as a place of danger for kids; after all, it's full of sharp objects and fire, among other hazards. Don't let those obstacles scare you away from some cooking pics! Invite those kids in, giving them age-appropriate tasks like washing produce, finding and passing you utensils, or pouring ingredients. If nothing else, pull up a stool and let them see what you're doing. Even letting them give something a stir will feel special for your little one.
Let's Play!
Do you have an extra playful wee one? Take advantage! Ask them to cook you a meal on that play kitchen. Build a train track and go for an adventure. Have a tower-building contest. Rock the baby doll and put her to bed. Drive toy cars and trucks around the road rug. Whatever kind of play you and your little enjoy, jump in and take turns with your spouse to get some sweet playtime pictures!
