I have to come to love photographing families in the Huntsville, Madison, New Market and Hazel Green areas of town.
Huntsville, AL provides the perfect backdrop for family sessions with its open spaces, Fall colors and beautiful weather.
The Yap family originally responded to a last minute request for a styled shoot and workshop I was hosting here in town. Tropical storms prevented that from happening but I knew this family needed to be photographed and that they had a story to tell.
Being able to fully style a family, choose location and facilitate connections is what makes my heart sing.
As an artist I have a strong vision for colors and backdrops that will enhance your family images. You bring the people and the love and I'll bring the knowledge and expertise on how to arrive at the final product.
When clients like Eifyl trust me completely the result is magical.
Colors:
I went with a very Earthy color palette for the Yap's family pictures. I wanted colors that pulled in the natural colors around them while also adding in a couple of patterns and textured to really make them pop in their pictures. Eify'ls kimono is one of my favorite pieces in my client closet. It adds just enough color and pattern to really enhance the picture while not being too overpowering. Also, her daughter's dress added some life to the wardrobe as well as perfect movement for all those fun twirls with mom and dad.
Location:
A great Huntsville, Alabama family photographer can make beauty from any environment or location. But one of the things I keep in mind are the ages and interests of your kiddos. I knew the Yap's had two young children, one of which was a very adventurous and active little boy. I always try to pair that dynamic with a location that has fun things to explore. My friend's farm in Hazel Green was the perfect place. All the farm animals showed up for our session and the kids loved chasing the chickens and petting the horses.
Connection:
This last part is where it is all about your family! I aim to take a backseat in your sessions-to be quiet observer. I guide when needed. I prompt when needed. But I also try to give you the space to just exist as a family. To take one hour where phones aren't an obstacle, work isn't an obstacle and you can simply just enjoy the presence of those most important to you. Connection wasn't a problem for the Yaps. The love in their family radiated. And Dad was really the hero of this story. Having dad be engaged and enthusiastic makes all the difference in the world when it comes to family photography. I always tell the husbands, "your job today is to be totally locked in on your wife. You are her hype person today! Tell her she's beautiful, don't look at me, look at her. Your other job is to play with your kids. Nothing makes kids laugh like their daddies."
Marc took his assignment next level. When he requested, "I want it that way" by the Backstreet boys I knew this session would be a dream.
But, 'we are so awkward" you say (I literally here you saying it). Don't worry. Don't try and be someone you are not. These are your images and they will beautifully represent the uniqueness of your family.
