One of the questions I've gotten a lot lately is about where to have your Newborn session. You've decided that lifestyle newborn photography is definitely the direction you want to go to capture those beautiful, real and emotive pictures of your family and your sweet new baby. But now you need to figure out where to have this amazing photoshoot. I'm going to share some Pros to both doing a session in your home and doing a session in my lifestyle studio located in Huntsville, Alabama.
In- Home Perks
Your home is an amazing place to have your newborn family session! The most obvious reason is that the space holds deep meaning to you. This is the place where you share your meals, your laughs, your tears and make small memories every day. Naturally you would want your newborn session to be an extension of that.
Another great thing about your home is that it is familiar to you and to any other siblings that may be a part of this session. Children do great being in their own space. We start with pictures of the whole family and the baby + sibling and then send the siblings on their way. They can play in their rooms, watch TV, etc in a space thats familiar to them.
One other reason is that you avoid having to pack up the whole house to come to the studio. As tiny as they are, these little humans tend to come with a lot of baggage. It can sometimes feel overwhelming to make sure you aren't forgetting anything when you head out the door.
And of course, there's the action of actually trying to leave your home with kids. Enough said.
In-Studio
So what about a session in my new, beautiful studio?? That's an awesome option as well!
One of the best things about the studio is that it takes the pressure off of you as mom to have a clean house. Coming home with a new baby is hard enough, let alone trying to get your house photoshoot ready. Even though as a photographer I think your home and mess is just a part of your story (and a part of the story we all have), I know that it can cause a lot of anxiety when you feel like you can't get your home the way that you would want it. The studio is already clean, temperature controlled and beautifully decorated-no stress needed.
Another big perk to the studio is that the decor in the studio has been carefully curated to fit a certain vibe that I know works and photographs beautifully! My client closet is filled with dresses for mom that also fit the style of the studio perfectly!
When Jamie came in for her Newborn session it was so simple from start to finish! She showed up and went straight to the client closet to pick out a dress. I have an array of sizes and was able to point her to a dress that fit her and the studio colors perfectly! There was no cleaning up or stressing to be done-just showing up and letting a gorgeous session unfold.
At the end of the day the connection between you and your baby is what is going to shine through! You will walk away from your session with an amazing experience and gorgeous images to start displaying on your walls and in your albums.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on these two spaces and what would appeal to you!
And if you are in Madison Alabama looking for an amazing newborn photographer, I'm here to walk with you every step of the way.

Stephanie Honikel - Great read, Tiffany. I personally love in-home sessions for all the reasons that you have mentioned (and more), but I love that your studio still feels homey and isn't your typical, backdrop heavy space that studios tend to be all about. This blog post will help all your beautiful momma make a decision that's best for them. Well done!
